Your choice how you walk the path. Many years back now, I was faced with a great worry that try as I might I didn’t have the means to fix. Believe me, I tried. If I couldn’t solve the problem by the end of the day I was in serious trouble. Consumed by the apparent uncertainties of life I walked in warm sunshine towards Cambridge City centre; the river, the cobbled streets and beautiful buildings were as nothing to me, only my worries filled my mind. As I walked along the path, I met a group of happy foreign students enjoying the sights, then shortly afterwards another group, also enjoying the sights and life itself. It dawned on me there and then that on that path in the sunshine there walked both sadness and happiness. The only thing different on that path was the minds of the people. . . the path itself was the same, the same cobble stones, the same sunshine, the same river, it was the people present that changed it. You choose whether you smile or cry, if you don't, then who does? How you walk that path, regardless of adversity, remains your choice and yours alone. |

The above group photo was taken at the closing seminar of the Orwell Dojo in Cambridgeshire.
An emotive occasion on which all teachers who wished to do so had the chance to teach. Spiritually and emotionally it was a powerful event. Some of the students in the group are no longer with us, some to other associations, some left Aikido altogether, some left the country and some left this earth for another place. We are reminded that everything changes. |
